About me:
Elora graduated from the Australian National University with a Bachelor of Music majoring in classical voice performance and a second degree in Classics, majoring in ancient history and ancient languages.
Through her studies Elora has been lucky enough to travel and learn all over the world. She has talked Latin in the Vatican, scrambled over ruins in Greece and Turkey, learnt to cook in Italy, learnt to avoid Americans in America and dug up bones in The Philippines. And in each place she continued to sing, always bringing her two passions of history and music together, whether it was performing on Broadway or simply avoiding being stabbed in Manila while singing Sinatra songs.
Her opera career began in New Zealand aged 11, when she was invited to solo at Dame Kiri Te Kanawa ONZ DBE AC’s Opera Factory, premiering a new work. Her singing career however began many years before that, driving her brother mad at the dinner table.
"We were totally won over by Elora Ledger's Cinderella. Her voice is beautifully affecting..."
- Voce di Meche
Her operatic credits include Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier), Badessa (Suor Angelica), Nancy Waters (Albert Herring), Dritte Dame (Die Zauberflöte) and Dido (Dido & Aeneas). She has performed in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Auckland, New York and Siena and made her UK debut last year as Tisbe (La Cenerentola), a role she will be reprising later this summer along with Carmen (Carmen) and Lucy in the UK premier of Sense and Sensibility.
She was particularly excited to have her Sydney Opera House debut in 2018 as the Baroness in Candide. Elora has performed principal roles across many other genres, including Cinderella (Into the Woods), Sheila (Hair), Iolanthe (Iolanthe), in several productions as Wendy Darling along with film and television productions in Australia and England. Elora had the privilege of studying in the US under Metropolitan Opera Principals Neil Rosenshein and Ashley Putnam.
Elora has performed as a soloist at government, diplomatic and charity events, performing for Prime Ministers, Members of Parliament and the Ambassadors to Australia.
Elora considers one of her greatest musical achievements to be singing in Ancient Greek and Roman theatres in Turkey, Greece and Italy. Her voice bouncing off the cracked marble of some of the best acoustic spaces ever constructed, she felt herself becoming a small link on the end of a chain that stretches from Homer and Aristophanes through to Pink Floyd.
She loves art song and 20th Century music, the weepier the better.
"Elora Ledger and Jessica Wise made a dream duo of comic relief - from the moment they appeared from each side of the stage until the final bow, they were the glue that held the show together. Bold and brave, they went to extremes... rolling around on the floor, stuffing bras and buttocks, and changing costumes in full view"
